Curse Given by God or Climate Change effect?

Hi, I am an inhabitant of Bangladesh. This country is poor and a part of well known the third world country. The country is full of natural beauty but most of the people of the country are poor. But, I think the strangest thing in the world is that, those poor people are very happy to bear their life. They have no complain about their life. They are poor, they have no facilities to hold a modern life and last of all they have no money to lead a sustainable life. But they are happy. Most of the people of Bangladesh live in village areas. They are poor farmers, fishermen, day-laborer etc. they live their own houses with a lot of family members. Most of the time they have to live such types of life where they have to collect their daily needs daily. You can’t imagine what types of sufferings a disaster can bring to the poor people, if you don’t see it with your own eyes.

Aila, the name of a well known super cyclone which destroyed the livelihood of the coastal areas of Bangladesh showed its aggression in May, 2009. Thousands of people had died and millions of houses were destroyed totally or partially. I can’t find yet any way to remove the horrible experiences during this disaster. Now, I am going to tell you about the sufferings brought by Aila.

My home district Khulna is one of the coastal districts of Bangladesh. I am living in Khulna city and studying in Khulna University. During Aila I was in Khulna city. My native village is named by Raruli in Paikgacha sub-district under Khulna district. Aila attacked Khulna city but harmed very less. But my village was totally destroyed. I went to the village after Aila and I can’t forget what I watched their.

I saw the unbearable sufferings of the people which can’t be illustrated in words. Water, water and water all over the village, roads rarely were found to reach home. Sea water inundated all. Houses all over the villages had destroyed. People had no place to live. The embankments of Kabatakh River were destroyed due to storm surge. And the sea water inundated the villages. Some people took shelters at the cyclone-centre, schools etc. but their accommodation capacity were very low. So people were forced to live on the roof of the houses which were not destroyed. Some people took shelter on big trees.

People had no food to eat, no water to drink, different types of water diesis all over the village and no medicine and last of all people had nothing to survive. Their happy life was totally destroyed by God given cyclone. There was no touch of happiness at the Aila affected areas. All crops and fishery farms were destroyed. So, people’s hopes for future were also inundated by the flood water.

I don’t want to tell you about the relief work after cyclone because those are the history of corruption. I can’t understand yet, how some dishonest people could grasp all the relief which should be reached to the poor people.

Corruption is very common in Bangladesh. Government bodies as well as political parties are not cordial enough about people’s welfare. But people had no accusation about this. They were happy by themselves. But the cyclone Aila inundated their happiness and hopes of life. Now, I ask myself, what is disaster? Are these the curse given by the God? What was the sin done by the poor people? Or is it a climate change effect? Can you say?
